4 Ways to Save Thousands on Skin Meds

Uncategorized May 22, 2017

Are you struggling to cover the cost of your skin care medication? You're not alone. According to the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF), one in three people with psoriasis have trouble paying for the cost of care.

A new study has found the price of some widely prescribed creams and pills for skin problems has risen rapidly over the past 5 years. In some cases as much as 400%

Psoriasis medications can run into the thousands of dollars. A tube of topical psoriasis medications might cost between $500 and $600. And biologics, a relatively new class of treatment for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, can run $15,000 to $20,000 or more a year.

So what are the options if you're struggling to cover the cost of medication?

1. Check your health insurance policy; In some cases, getting your prescriptions by mail order can be less expensive than getting them from the pharmacy.

2. Invest in a home light therapy unit; If you have a $50 co-pay for doctor’s office visits and you need light therapy three times a week, the costs will soon mount up. That's $600 a month. A home therapy unit will be more expensive as an initial investment, but you can save gas and travel time and office co-pays.

3. Try a natural alternative; If you feel as though you've been on an endless cycle of medication for your skin condition and you're disappointed with the results, why not try my FREE natural protocol? Whether you do this in conjunction with your existing medication plan or speak to your doctor about taking a break from pharmaceuticals for a while, making changes to your diet can have an amazing impact on your skin and overall health.

4. Apply for financial assistance; Check out the NPF’s financial assistance resource center. The site lists many assistance programs for which you might qualify. Many drug manufacturers will provide biologics free to patients who show a need. Go to the manufacturer’s website to see what they offer. You don’t have to be desperately poor to qualify. In some instances they will provide the medications at substantially reduced costs.
